Did anything weird happen?
nada…all say cups error: internal error
I’m sorry but I have done all I can do. I don’t know it the problem is with Epson or Linux Mint or both or something entirely unknown. I have never had this much trouble installing a printer in Linux
thanks. I’ll pack it up and return it
wait! How do I remove all the stuff we installed?
The only thing left to uninstall is the the driver created by alien from the RPM. Remove it using the command:
sudo apt remove *escpr
After you are through with that you can move to trash or delete the downloaded files in Downloads using your file manager.
And something else you can to is clean up some unused files by using autoremove.
sudo apt autoremove
Thank you! I appreciate your help
You are welcome, I am sorry we couldn’t get it working.
Dennis, a friend gave me and hp printer. I was able to find hplip on laptop. I used the USB to hook it to our wireless network. when hook with usb it prints and says that it is on wireless. When I try to print a test page wirelessly I get a communication error. Can you help with this?
Nancy
What model is the HP printer?
Once we have the model number we can look at the manual and see what we need to do.
When hooked to you computer with the usb cable does it print?
HP Photosmart Plus B209. I had the HPLIP Software already so I used it to add the printer with the USB. I then used the software to get the printer to hook up to the wifi. It appeared to work. I can print but only with USB attached. I get “device communication error code 5012” when I try to print wirelessly.
When setting up the printer and you have usb and wireless it is a good idea to name the connections so you can tell how they connect. I name my usb connections as USB “printer name” and I name a wireless connection as Wireless “printer name”. Sometimes you can get a wireless Direct connection and I name those Direct “printer name”. The same goes for a wired network printer. So it is possible on some printer to have four different connections (5 if you count bluetooth). Make sure you name them so it is easy to tell the connections apart. After you set up the connections that you want then you can choose one that will be the Default and it will make it easier when you print as the Default will already be waiting for you.
Keep your USB connection (possibly rename it if desired) then ADD a wireless connection. If you have any printer connections that do NOT work then delete them.
Your printer and computer need to be connected to the same wireless network.
I looked at the HP website for your manual but the HP link to your manual does not work. I found your manual at the following link:
(You can read through the manual and/or download it from the site below but it is windows specific. If you read the sections related to using your router, printer and computer then it may give you more insight into what you need to do in Linux)
https://www.manualsdir.com/manuals/100752/hp-photosmart-plus-b209-photosmart-plus-all-in-one-printer-b209a.html?page=8
If the HPLIP software does not get it set up correctly you can use the system 'Printer Add" that you have used before to add the wireless printer and during the process you will select the hplip printer driver for your printer.
Thank you. It took me a few days to get back to working on this and I got it figured out, with your help. So glad it’s working. Thank you.
