Have y’all seen the latest virus discovery for Linux called “Plague?” According to the articles I’ve read, it’s a backdoor that allows unfettered access to the system and is almost completely undetectable. This is unrelated to a backdoor that was discovered last year that was baked into the Linux kernal. Discoveries like this are very troubling and seem to show the cracks in the foundational premise that Linux is more private and secure than other operating systems like Windows and macOS. At this point, I’m not sure that Linux actually is more secure.
Chris Titus is a longtime Linux proponent, and, in one of his latest videos entitled, “Why Do I Use Linux,” he says that it’s not because Linux is more private and secure and states that Linux isn’t necessarily more private and secure.
What are your thoughts? Do you think that these backdoor discoveries are a major concern? Might a well-informed Windows user actually be able to enjoy a more private and especially more secure experience on Windows (with the appropriate settings and disabled features) or macOS?
