I am seeking to complete my first ever install of Linux.
It has been suggested to install
Mint or Ubuntu
Where can I find either/both to download to a USB memory stick?

I use Mint Cinnamon and Ubuntu Cinnamon on my computers. Cinnamon is a great desktop for somebody just coming over from Windows.
