Does anyone know how to get out of an endless login loop on a Mac with Pop? I can not reach the command line with Control Alt F3 or any key combination I have tried. Thank you for the help from the brilliant person who can help me solve this one in advance.
Assuming this is from a login screen, was the root user configured when Linux was installed. If so, are you able to login as root?
My username is there and the password is correct however I keep going back to the sign-in prompt. I can not access the terminal as the control Alt F3 does not work on my Mac machine and pop os. I am embarrassed to say a lot of this is over my head. Until I found the Jeff. pro group I did not even know how to save my files to a USB or back up my computer. Perhaps there is something weird about the Mac keyboard that won’t let me access the terminal.
Try holding down FN and CTRL and OPTION and press F1. This works on my macbook air running Linux Mint.
Thank you. It was kind of you to take the time to help. If I can get to the terminal, perhaps I can fix the problem without reformatting the computer. I am in your debt.
It’s what we do - help each other. If you are able to access a terminal session and get logged in, try renaming the .Xauthority ( with the dot ) file to something Xauthority.old ( without the dot ). This file will get recreated when a new GUI session starts. The command would be, without the quotes: “mv .Xauthority Xauthority.old”
It worked. Thank you so much for your help. I was about to give up but now I have my computer back and working wonderfully. It was so kind of you to take the time to help.

Glad to hear that you’re back up and functional!
