Sound issues on Ubuntu 22.04

I have been on Linux a few weeks and have never gotten my sound to work. I am using Logitech S120 Speakers. They function my laptop ok. Perhaps I need a driver for my sound card? In Ubuntu settings for sound it shows up as Dummy Output so I don’t think my sound card is being recognized. If the easy fix is to replace the sound card which one should I get to know it’s compatible with Ubuntu?

Can you post the output of groups? Specifically looking for audio and video groups.

Do you have a muted icon or anything?

Is this what you mean? If not what terminal command should I use to obtain it?

Looks like your user is not in the audio or video groups…

Try this:

Switch to root with:
su -
usermod -aG audio,video pbkbham
exit

Logout and/or reboot. Check results with groups command again and check if sound is working now.
