Say hello and introduce yourself!

Hello All. My Name is Steve and I have been in the IT game since the early 90’s.
My very first job when I finished university was setting up the infrastructure for networks for a rather large company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I have knowledge of Windows from 3.0 right through to the modern day era. Although no longer working in IT I have been interested in Linux right from it was bash based, command line, but just never sat down to get what I needed. Very happy to be involved and learn more about the Linux kernal, and all its magic.

Hello! My Dad (he’s 90) and I are trying to figure out what to do…he can’t upgrade to Windows11 and I don’t want to…lol. For him…HIS major concern is TurboTax compatibility. For me…I have gmail, but most everything else I can probably deal with. MY biggest question is…how to convert the computers. My Dad has desktops that are…not new. I have a laptop and a netbook…the netbook is the easiest to convert, I think to Linux? Can someone help with the process to do that? Once I have Linux on something, I can help my Dad test TurboTax. Also…what about android phones? Because, they’re google based, right? I’m sure I need to take a course or something…but I thought maybe I could do a little prep? TIA

Hello. Raven here and very much a beginner. Not sure this is how I post a question as I just registered for this forum a few minutes ago.
I’m using Windows 10 currently and know that there are no more updates after October 14th, 2025, which is just a day away and I have no wish to upgrade to Windows 11 due to all the negative things I have heard and the spyware. I’ve been wanting to get away from Microsoft for quite some time and have heard of the Linux operating systems but know nothing about them.
I read that Linux Mint Cinnamon is very user friendly and looks a lot like the Windows layout. Therefore, I would like to know where I can download an authentic copy of the most recent Linux Mint Cinnamon? I read somewhere that not all websites have authentic copies so I’m trying to be careful not to get a bad copy of this distro. Thanks in advance for any help in this area.

Have a look at Zorin. I believe it also falls into the “Windoze like” category.

Also take a look at Ventoy

It allows you to put multiple ISOs on the one USB drive AND also use it as a regular USB for file storage (pretty cool, Huh?)

That way you could put Mint and Zorin and anything else you want to “test drive” on the one USB.

Have fun, the learning curve can be a bit like going down a “rabbit hole”, but well worth the effort.

Welcome to Linux.
