New HP laptop Not sure where to begin

Yes. Try that. Is windows set up on your computer?

Yes, Windows 10. It is wanting to get me to update to 11 and I just put it on delay for a week… OK I tried the enter-option and same window that I usually get comes up. I am Shutting down again

Wait. Boot into windows and go into settings.

I already shut down. So when I open computer as normal this time just let it do its regular and then go to settings

Yes. Then go into settings.

Sorry to repeat. I have to post at least 20 characters for it to let me through. Go into settings and type in the search bar; advanced startup. Click on the top option and click restart.

OK, I am in my settings. What am I looking for please? By the way I like the name, taco dogg

Thanks.

Type into the search advanced startup. Then click the top option and hit restart.

Once you restart, use your arrow keys to hit advanced options. Then hit UEFI firmware settings. This should take you to a menu with a BIOS option. Press the corresponding f-key to the entry.

Ok I am at the advanced start up option do I need to do anything while that is re- starting up?

No. Just wait. It should not take long.

Came up with options to either continue,
And also use a device USB drive, is this what I want?

Also has a troubleshoot option to reset PC or see advanced options? Would it be that one

No. I gave you incorrect instructions. By the way, are you wanting to save any files from windows? If so, back them up.

Already have everything backed up, kind of overkill I have carbonite and Norton cloud😵‍💫 OK I will go to troubleshoot advanced options

No. Make sure your usb drive is In and click boot from usb.

OK once I did that I have the UEFA firmware settings and it gives me a button to restart, do I want this?

Oh, I just saw your previous reply I will back up to the previous screen

OK I am in a screen that says gnu grub version 2.04 start
Start Linux mint cinnamon 20.3 64 bit
“. “. Compatibility mode
OEM install
Check integrity of medium
it gives me a couple different options I have never use the command prompt system before so bear with me please thank you

Thank you so very much. I am checking the integrity and I think it’s supposed to download automatically after that. Really appreciate your patience. Everyone has been so awesome. Have a great rest of your weekend

Hi Nikki, It looks like @Tacodogg helped you get the boot menu where you were able to select boot from USB. Then I see where it looks like you are starting the installation.
In your deleted post above you mention “multimedia codecs, is this some thing I need?” You do not ‘need’ the multimedia codecs but then you would not be able to listen to some music or watch some videos. I am not familiar enough with Linux Mint to say it that is all music and all video.

You also mention “Configure secure boot?”
You do NOT want to use secure boot. It seems to cause unnecessary problems. If you did get Mint installed with secure boot then you may get some error(s) when you reboot. And since it was an option during install you may have to turn Secrue boot off in you BIOS.

If you have completed the installation then good job!
If not then you are almost there. Keep posting here and you WILL get it done.
