Issues Installing skylendar program on zorin linux

Hi, I am attempting to install the skylendar software on my linux zorin system from skylendar download | SourceForge.net. But i have tried everything with no success.I just don’t have sufficient technical understanding to follow the instructions, or perhaps i’m doing something wrong or there’s something i’ve overlooked…i simply don’t know.

So, i downloaded the “tar.xz” file no problem. i unpacked it. But everything i try from this point onwards fails. Some of the commands in the instructions don’t work. Or my system doesn’t seem to understand them. I know there must be a way of doing it, but i’m stuck.

Life is too short to spend any more time trying to figure this out myself. So if there is anyone who feels able to help i would be extremely grateful for your assistance

I took a look at skylendar on GitHub, there is also an “installskylendar.sh” file which is most likely needed to actually install it. I have a zorin machine I can test on & report back.

The file you downloaded is the source code used to build the application. Download the zorin “.deb” installation package from here: Download skylendar-4.2nn-2-x86_64.deb (skylendar)

The file “skylendar-4.2nn-2-x86_64.deb” will end up in your Downloads folder, open the Files application and double click on Downloads. Then double click on “skylendar-4.2nn-2-x86_64.deb”. In the pop up dialog box, select “Run anyway”. In the next dialog box, click on “Install”. You will be prompted for your password, which allows the installer to run with elevated privilege.

When the install has completed, the Install button will change to Uninstall. At that point exit the installer. Now click on the Zorin start menu button in the lower left, click on Other, then click on Skylendar.

Hope this helps,

-John

Hey Narcosis, I followed your instructions and seem to have gotten a little bit further. However I ran into another small problem. When I tried to run the “Skydmin” utility, it said “You must have root privileges to run this program”. So I logged off and on again as Administrator, but it still won’t allow me to run the utility (which needs to run first), I know this may be a dumb question but how do i run this little utility with root privileges?
