I use my laptop as a Wi-Fi hotspot when I’m out in the shop or barn cuz it has stronger connection. In Windows I can hook up to a Wi-Fi hotspot and then reshare it to my phone. Is that possible in Linux? I just got Linux installed finally on my HP envy 360. But I get the message after creating hotspot that it has to be a wired connection. Is there anyway around this? I sure hope so. I don’t want to go back to windows. The exact message is as follows.
Turning on the hotspot will disconnect from premiereifi1 and it will not be possible to access the internet through Wi-Fi.
I have no problems doing this in Windows 10 or 11 but on Ubuntu it wants a wired connection into the laptop to share Wi-Fi anyway around this?
Which “Linux” did you install on the HP Envy 360. Some of the articles I ran across for this scenario were more then 5 years old. I’d like to try an narrow it down by the distro.
Latest Ubuntu also tried Lennox mint cinnamon. Right now I’m back on just straight Ubuntu. Yeah everything I saw so far is really old too and can’t even find the settings they recommend or how to get to those settings but I am new. Once I figure it out I’ll probably go back to cinnamon.
This shouldnt be to bad, I think the gnome version of the network manager is much like the Xfce version. I right clicked my network connection. Chose edit connections.
Selected the connection and hit the cog/gear settings icon at bottom.
Went to IPv4 settings.
under method, I have (Automatic DHCP) by default the drop down arrow lists many below it including “Shared to other computers”
I cannot confirm if it works or not but at least it can give you a general idea.
Hope this helps.
Tried that earlier before even posting and had no effect.

I’m not certain, I can try to dig around some more, maybe someone else will have some input in the meantime.
Yeah, I’ve been digging around all week and haven’t found a good answer. Thought I’d post here after finding this from telegram. I know how windows does it but I know this isn’t windows and that’s what I’m trying to get away from.

Unfortunately, I’m re-formatting back to Windows right now. I’ll try Linux another day again. Really need my wireless hotspot
Sorry to hear that.
Personally, I ran 200’ CAT5 cable out to my shop and put a repeater up, worked nicely for the pool area too.
Interesting, I grabbed the .deb but I probably wont get a chance to look at it till Sunday at the earliest.
