Dell 3793 no USB C power port want to run 2 monitors

I have searched for adapters or Docking Station that would work off HDMI or USB 3.0 ports with no luck. Running Mint 22. Does any company make one? Only docks I find need USB C power port.

I have a feeble memory, if that is a desktop then all you have to do is get a video card with two ports, if it’s a laptop, ah I would try searching for a universal docking station.

When I first switched from Windoze to Linux (May 2022) I was using a “Displaylink” adapter (Laptop screen plus two monitors) through USB A. The only distro that supported the adapter was Ubuntu. At some point the setup stopped working and I gave up and just bought a really big monitor to give me the real estate I needed.

It has been over two years now so you might have better luck.

Check out DisplayLink Graphics | Synaptics

It looks like they sell all sorts of adapters USB, HDMI, etc

Thanks I had been looking at Display link but seemed all needed USB-C powered laptops. Found this StarTech USB 3.0 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter, Male to Female, Black (USB32DP24K60) and ordered so will see if it works. The STARTECH adapter so far works very well with Mint Wilma 22. But the trick is to use the APT Repository info you get when you download drivers from Startech.

I just followed the instructions in the PDF doc provided in the APT Repository folder.

First I installed the following:
Install dkms and libdrm-dev manually by entering the following:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install dkms
sudo apt install libdrm-dev

The command they gave would not work for me. So I just double clicked the synaptics-repository-keyring.deb driver file. It said it was already there but I reinstalled anyway.
