I have been testing our different distros from live bootable usb’s, Many are pretty light on apps. How can I download more apps to be portable with my usb?

I had originally found an article to perform this, but there was a 3rd party app that was downloadable to use, but for potential malware possibilities I deleted it just in case. I’ll try to research this one further and get back to you, or maybe someone else with better knowledge on this, communicates to you first.
